Networking Midwives in Ethiopia with UNICEF

In Design for UNICEF, I’ve been working on a proposal for networking midwives in Ethiopia with Sandra Davila, Michelle Mayer, Andrea Dulko, and Ari Joseph. The country does not have hardly any certified doctors or nurses to help deliver babies, let alone administer health care, so we thought it would be beneficial to network the traditional birth attendants, or midwives, in Ethiopia to increase the chances of successful, non-mom-harming births. Here is what we have so far. We are caught between making them virtual pen pals, and linking them via SMS utilizing RapidSMS. Lots of work to do, but at least we are looking to help the right cause. Ari put together this fantastic slide show to show some of our ideas for this week’s presentation.
